Middle School graduation: Congratulations to the Class of 2030!

On Monday, June 8, with an adoring audience of family, friends, and teachers filling the Middle School’s gym, the members of the Class of 2030 received certificates marking the milestone of their graduation from Lakeside Middle School.

The student-organized ceremony kicked off with the 90 members of the graduating class processing into the gym in pairs, grasping hand-selected flowers that they placed in a single large vase, symbolizing the unique individuals of the class coming together. Later that evening, the vase made its traditional trip to the Upper School for the Class of 2026 Baccalaureate ceremony.

“Every part of this event tells your story and celebrates your time here at the Middle School,” remarked Assistant Head of School/Middle School Director Reem Abu Rahmeh. From the emcees to musicians, program design to speakers, students’ creative minds, talents, and humor were on full display. Appreciation for their time at the Middle School, as well as an excitement for what is to come permeated the event.

In her advice to the students, Abu Rahmeh reminded them of the importance of being a follower as well as a leader: “As you move through high school and life, you will encounter moments when someone needs support, perhaps someone who needs a first follower,” said Abu Rahmeh. “Moments when inclusion requires action. Moments when kindness is less convenient but absolutely necessary. Moments when speaking up feels uncomfortable. Those are the moments that define culture within a community.”

Following her address, each beaming student was called on stage to receive a certificate of graduation, as well as hearty handshakes from Abu Rahmeh and Interim Head of School/Upper School Director Ryan Boccuzzi. With certificates in hand, the now-rising 9th graders were welcomed to the Upper School by Student Government representatives Timothy D. and Pia A. who evoked the metaphor of a forest in describing the Upper School and the interconnectedness of our community. Asking all the rising 9th graders to stand in tree pose, Timothy and Pia reminded them: “Be creative, be bold, and most importantly, never take yourself too seriously!”

Congratulations to the Class of 2030!
