An Independent School • Grades 5-12
From winter concerts to spring musicals: Lakeside on stage

by Mary Clementi, performing arts department head

November and December were full of performances across all of the performing arts. If you missed a performance or want to share it with your friends and family out of town, you can find recordings here. Bookmark this page for future reference so you can enjoy Lakeside performances all year!

December is typically a very busy time for people in the performing arts, which is why we intentionally keep our December performance schedule light. Many of our students and faculty spend December evenings and weekends performing throughout the Seattle area — “The Nutcracker,” “A Christmas Carol,” “Lessons and Carols” —  maybe you’ve even seen a Lakesider singing, dancing, or playing in one of these productions!

When we return to campus in January, our students will spend evenings and weekends working on the musicals:

  • “The Drowsy Chaperone” at the Middle School (February 11, 12, and 13)
  • “Anything Goes” at the Upper School (March 5, 6, and 7)

We will also get to work on preparing music for a variety of off-campus events. The jazz band will prepare for the Bellevue College Jazz Festival and a performance at Lakeside's annual ROAR celebration. The Upper School orchestra will prepare for the UW Orchestra Festival. The Middle School choirs will prepare for a performance at the National Association of Independent Schools Conference, which will take place at the Seattle Convention Center.

Beyond these off-campus events, we have our “home concerts” open to the entire Lakeside community. Please join us for these joyful evenings of music!

  • The Upper School orchestra will perform an evening of chamber music in McKay Chapel on Tuesday, Feb. 3, from 6:30-8:30 p.m.
  • The concert band will perform on Wednesday, Feb. 4, from 6:30-7:30 p.m.
  • The Middle School orchestras, grades 5-8, will give two one-hour concerts on Wednesday, Feb. 25. The 5th and 6th grade students will perform at 6 p.m., and the 7th-8th grade students will perform at 7 p.m. Both concerts will take place in the Evans Theater at the Middle School.
  • Rounding out February, the Middle School bands and choirs will give a combined concert on Thursday, Feb. 26, at 6:30 p.m. in the Evans Theater at the Middle School.
  • Join us in McKay Chapel on Tuesday, March 17, for a "studio sessions" concert from our Upper School choir and jazz combo at 6:30 p.m.
  • To finish out March, the Upper School band and orchestra will perform in St. Nicholas Hall on March 31 at 6:30 p.m.

We also have several students who will travel to Tacoma for Junior All-State and for the American Choral Directors Association Northwest Honor Choir. Please join us in congratulating these students:
