We are pleased to report that the Upper School is adding electronic door access control and cameras to our campus buildings. This project, on track to be completed by the end of the summer, significantly enhances the safety of our Upper School campus. Most importantly, when we have safety drills or need to lock exterior main doors quickly, we can now secure them within seconds.

What can the Upper School community expect in September?

Students and families should not experience any change in access to campus buildings. Campus buildings will unlock and lock on a predetermined school day and event schedule that is managed by community safety leadership.

Our community will see new cameras on buildings around the main building entrances. They are there to enhance school safety and security, not monitor individual behaviors beyond safety and security concerns. In fact, live face-blurring technology will be applied to the cameras. The primary use of video surveillance is to work in tandem with our electronic door access system so that when safety incidents surface, community safety leaders can investigate.

How do Upper School community members enter buildings during after-hours events?

All events will have to be planned in advance. When events are scheduled, exterior doors are programmed to be unlocked and locked based on the event day and time.

What if Upper School students need to retrieve forgotten items in buildings after school or on weekends?

This happens regularly. When students forget something on campus and need access to a building after hours, they can continue the same practice they have previously used, by calling security at 206-730-8299.

How do employees gain access to campus buildings after hours and on weekends?

Employees who need access after-hours can enter buildings using their smartphones or school-issued fobs.
