We ask you to save the date for Arts Fest 2025, which will take place on Wednesday, May 21, on the Upper School campus. This all-school event celebrates visual and performing arts at Lakeside and makes for a fun evening for the whole family! Galleries open at 5 p.m., when a reception will also begin in Red Square, and performances will begin at 6 p.m.

Grammy award-winning vocalist and composer Johnaye Kendrick will join the Jazz Band and Concert Choir for a concert on Monday, April 28. A professor of music at Cornish College of the Arts, Ms. Kendrick will share her talent and experience with Lakeside students during an on-campus visit in mid-April and then for the performance on the 28th. Ms. Kendrick is a founding member of jazz power group SAJE, a graduate of the prestigious Thelonious Monk Institute, and a recent Earshot artist-in-residence. This will be a fantastic show featuring one of the elite vocal talents Seattle has to offer.

The music program offers end-of-year performances from all student musicians. Join us for the following Middle School performances. All concerts will be held in Evans Theater at the Middle School. All Upper School music performances will occur during Arts Fest.

  • Tuesday, April 29, 6:30 p.m.: 6th-8th grade choirs
  • Wednesday, April 30, 6 p.m.: 5th-6th grade orchestras
  • Wednesday, April 30, 7 p.m.: 7th-8th grade orchestra
  • Monday, May 5, 6:30 p.m.: 6th-8th grade bands

The drama program has three offerings in May. On Thursday, May 1, at 6:30 pm, join the Drama 6 and 7 classes for a two-part evening of theater about storytelling, Seattle, and social media. Part One: Drama 6 presents Seattle Stories, a collection of vignettes inspired by true stories from the students' lives here in our shared home in the Seattle(ish) area. Part Two: The Drama 7 classes will present Ian McWethy and Carrie McCrossen’s comedy “This Is Your Brain on Social Media.” Do teenagers spend too much time on the internet? Is there anything adults can do about it? And how many Instagram accounts does a well-adjusted human need? Find out the answers to these important questions — and more! — in this fast-paced satire about the perils and perplexities of the digital age. Both "acts" are suitable for audience members of all ages; the evening will conclude by 8 pm.

Saturday, May 3 at 5 p.m. is the Drama IV Showcase. This year’s Drama IV Showcase, “Communication Breakdown,” is a series of scenes selected by the ensemble that explore dramatic moments of miscommunication. Some of the scenes are funny, some are not, but all have a heart and offer challenges to the actors and we hope entertainment for the audience. There is also original work written by the ensemble sprinkled in, as well as a surprise musical ending to celebrate their commitment to the program and each other. We hope that you will come and enjoy their final performance as a Drama IV ensemble. Please note that the showcase may contain mature language and subject matter.

Circus! takes place on May 13, 14, and 15. See a selection of short plays written, directed, and performed by Lakeside students. Each evening features different plays, with performances starting at 6 p.m. The material contains mature language and subject matter. More info will come in the next Inside Lakeside.
