2025-2026 Athletics Assembly Recap

Led by Director of Athletics Chris Hartley, the Upper School faculty, staff, and student body gathered in the Paul G. Allen Athletics Center on Wednesday, May 10 to celebrate the 2025-2026 Lakeside Athletics seasons, and to recognize individual and group awards.

The program began by honoring the six Lakeside student-athletes selected by their coaches to represent Lakeside in the Metro League’s Scholar Athlete 101 Club: seniors Cailyn C., Lauryn C., Brisa G., Brady L., Will P., and Anub Z. The six were nominated by their coaches for their outstanding leadership, unwavering good judgment as role models, their service to our community, and their strong performance in the classroom.

Next, Hartley recognized team and individual performances from our winter, and spring teams. Highlights included a historic Boys Swim & Dive performance, finishing second at the state championship meet while breaking three state records and winning five of twelve events, with Charlie C. named 3A State Swimmer of the Meet; Boys Soccer claiming the Metro League championship and advancing to the state tournament; Girls Lacrosse earning a top-eight state finish for the second consecutive year while also claiming the Academic State Championship title for the second straight year; the track and field team’s girls 4x200 meter relay team of Vivienne W., Suya M., Phoebe P., and Vienna W. shattering a 14-year-old school record with a time of 1:44.99; sophomore basketball standout Quentin M. surpassing 1,000 career points and earning Metro League Sound Division MVP honors; and the Girls Flag Football team mounting a remarkable season comeback, rebounding from an 0-3 start to finish 9-5 and reach the sport’s first-ever WIAA State championship tournament.

Hartley then recognized the 2025-2026 BIG CAT Award winners, the Strength and Conditioning program’s Committed Athlete award winners, and interim head girls basketball coach Sandy Schneider, who won the Pacific Northwest Basketball Officials Association co-Head Coach of the Year award.

To close the program, Hartley announced the first of two co-winners of the 2025-2026 Harry Swetnam Award, which is given annually to a person making notable positive impacts on the Lakeside Athletics community: Director of Facilities Dan Dawkins. Hartley said of Dawkins, “He is satisfied with doing his job well, knowing that in doing so, he is providing an exceptional service to this community. He has been instrumental in updating our facilities and in making sure anything that stops working gets fixed as quickly as possible. He never wants the students’ experiences to be negatively impacted by what is happening with our facilities and equipment.”

The microphone was turned over to Sally Revere ’79, Lakeside’s running program head and head cross country coach, to announce the second winner of the Harry Swetnam Award: Director of Athletics Chris Hartley. “The last 12 years as director of athletics has been truly special,” Hartley said upon receiving the award. “I have learned a great deal, been incredibly proud to represent Lakeside Athletics, and have enjoyed every moment I have watched the Lakeside Lions compete."

Tennis, track and field, crew, and boys soccer are all still competing in postseason play! Be sure to check the Athletics calendar for updates on when and where you can catch the Lions in action.
